About Your Agency: Chartered in 1834, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is the largest, busiest, and oldest continuously operating commuter railroad in the United States. In 2024, it served 75.5 million riders.
Job Summary: This position will be responsible for the development and maintenance of material part catalogs and inventory re-order levels for stock material for the Maintenance of Equipment department, directly related to LIRR fleets.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain the LIRR inventory Catalog for MofE Fleet related items only.
Establish stock items and their related classifications for MofE Fleet related items only.
Code and control new and obsolete items for MofE Fleet related items only.
Enter data into the procurement system from internal drawings and specifications for MofE Fleet related items only.
Develop commodity nomenclatures that are consistent with existing items for MofE Fleet related items only.
Consult with MofE Production Planning group to confirm and refine forecasts in order to establish and maintain MofE Fleet related inventory replenishment levels.
Verify and control adequate stock inventory using standard replenishment processes generating requisitions and assigning delivery schedules that are in line with consumption requirements for MofE Fleet related items only.
Perform other tasks/assignments as requested by Senior Management.
Qualifications
A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED/TASC) approved by a state department of education or recognized accredited organization.
Understands the functions related to Material Control.
Strong attention to detail with numbers and words and able to group similar nomenclatures.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and works as a team member.
Good judgement, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).
Preferred/Desirable Skills
Minimum of five years progressively responsible procurement experience.
Bachelors degree or degree in progress preferred.
Wage Progression
For employees hired prior to September 25, 2014:
1st 365 calendar days 80%
2nd 365 calendar days 85%
3rd 365 calendar days 90%
4th 365 calendar days 95%
After 1,460 calendar days 100%
For employees hired on or after September 25, 2014:
1st 365 calendar days 80%
2nd 365 calendar days 80%
3rd 365 calendar days 85%

5th 365 calendar days 90%
6th 365 calendar days 95%; after 2,190 calendar days 100%
