Job Description Summary The GE Grid Solutions GSI North America group is currently seeking a Senior Power Transformers Master Electrician reporting directly to the Field Services Team Leader for the Power Transformers (PTR) Group. The incumbent will be responsible for detail‑oriented collaboration with the clients and engineering groups, to ensure the erection, commissioning, and maintenance of PTR systems throughout North America. The role will also be responsible for training and supporting colleagues in performing essential tasks related to PTR installation, wiring, upgrades, and services processes and procedures to ensure all safety and quality procedures are followed to meet our customer’s expectations.

Highlights of the Position

Regional and national travel required across all of North America.

Long‑term installation projects providing a rotational schedule of four weeks on site and one week working at home throughout the project life cycle.

Guaranteed base salary compensation plus eligibility for overtime and per diem.

Typical on‑site work activities are 12‑hour days, up to six days per week.

Emergency call‑out services may be required to support customers year‑round 24x7 production requirements.

Position would be assigned to or based out of our service center in the Humble/Houston Texas area.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & troubleshooting of control cabinet electrical components, including testing, troubleshooting and wiring of breakers, relays, contactors, fans and other associated electrical components.

Diagnose and repair faults in power transformers, switchgear, protective relays, and associated control systems.

Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs for electrical infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards such as NETA and IEEE.

Read, interpret, and modify complex electrical schematics, blueprints, single‑line diagrams, and technical manuals.

Uphold strict adherence to high‑voltage safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and the latest National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and OSHA regulations.

Supervise, train, and mentor junior electricians and apprentices, coordinating work schedules and ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards.

Collaborate with engineers, clients, and contractors on system upgrades and new installations, including preparing documentation and reports.

Essential Qualifications

License: A valid Master Electrician license is required (specific state or jurisdiction requirements apply).

Experience: Requires 10+ years of industrial or utility‑scale electrical experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused specifically on substations and transformer systems.

Technical Skills: Expertise in high‑voltage systems (up to 34.5 kV or higher), control cabinet testing, fault isolation, and use of advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, ammeters, voltmeters).

Soft Skills: Strong problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently and manage field teams.

Work Environment Master electricians in this field work in industrial settings, data centers, utility power plants, or large commercial facilities. The role may involve significant travel, physically demanding tasks, and exposure to varying environmental conditions and high‑voltage hazards, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols.
