About The Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA) FSSA was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1991 to consolidate and better integrate the delivery of human services by the state government. FSSA is a health care and social services funding agency. Ninety-four percent of the agency’s total budget is paid to thousands of service providers ranging from major medical centers to a physical therapist working with a child or adult with a developmental disability. The seven care divisions in FSSA administer services to more than 1.5 million Hoosiers. FSSA’s mission is to compassionately serve Hoosiers of all ages and connect them with social services, health care, and their communities.

Role Overview In your role as an Accountant, you will be uploading flat files into PeopleSoft Financials, receiving with distribution line breakdowns, monitoring the email system, organizing claim and invoice submissions, and monitoring claim and invoice submissions that are delayed because of issues needing to be addressed. This role also serves as a trainer for the new receiving department staff. The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Salary Statement The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day In The Life

Advise the supervisor of the status of all accounts.

Assist management in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests.

Develop and recommend implementation of new accounting methods and procedures pertaining to this position’s area of responsibility.

Advise program staff on accounting matters relating to specific program funding.

Assist in the development and maintenance of general policies for a fiscal program.

Coordinate use of the computerized accounting system for the program area.

Certify the accuracy of financial records and accounts.

Analyze and interpret financial statements and reports.

Control the flow of appropriated funds.

Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts.

Interact with, and respond to, state and federal audit representatives.

Make necessary adjustments to close books.

Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.

Ability to solve relatively complex accounting and budgeting problems.

Ability to develop accounting methods and procedures to meet agency needs.

Ability to assist in budget preparation.

Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports.

Ability to reconcile discrepancies in accounts.

Ability to develop effective work relationships.

Effective communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
