About the Role The Principal Accountant will serve as a key finance partner to the Arden Hills manufacturing plant, providing accounting leadership, financial analysis, and decision support to Operations. This role will own and lead complex accounting activities, with a focus on manufacturing and inventory accounting, and will ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in alignment with company policies and US GAAP.
Key Responsibilities Manufacturing & Plant Support
Serve as the primary accounting contact for the Arden Hills manufacturing plant, partnering closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance.
Support monthly manufacturing results, including review of plant P&L, variance analysis, and explanations of key drivers.
Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, including material, labor, and overhead, to support product cost control and productivity initiatives.
Support and review accounts receivable transactions impacting the plant, including billing, credit memos, write‑offs, and adjustments.
Partner with Global Business Services to resolve AR issues that impact plant reporting and performance.
Analyze AR aging and trends as they relate to plant performance and support initiatives to improve cash collection and reduce disputes for pre‑paid inventory.
Accounting & Reporting
Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close activities for plant‑related accounts, ensuring accurate and timely journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis.
Maintain and reconcile inventory, reserves, and related balance sheet accounts.
Ensure proper revenue and expense recognition related to plant activities in accordance with company policy and US GAAP.
Systems & Process Improvement
Utilize SAP ERP to review, analyze, and reconcile financial data, including GL, AR, inventory, and manufacturing cost data.
Identify and drive process improvements, automation opportunities, and best practices across plant accounting and related processes.
Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and process walkthroughs related to plant accounting and AR.
Business Partnership & Leadership
Provide financial insight and recommendations to Operations leaders to support decision‑making, cost savings, and capital investments.
Prepare and present clear, concise financial analyses and commentary to finance and business leadership.
Mentor and provide guidance to other finance and accounting team members as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Significant progressive experience in accounting or finance roles (including senior‑level responsibility).
Strong understanding of US GAAP and core accounting principles.
Experience working with SAP ERP in a financial/accounting capacity.
Experience with accounts receivable processes and transaction flows.
Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results to non‑finance partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Manufacturing or plant accounting experience strongly preferred, ideally in a complex, multi‑entity environment.
Experience in a large, global, or matrixed organization.
Background in medical device, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional partners and drive process improvements.
Detail‑oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working closely with Operations and cross‑functional teams.
