Project Accountant
BlueThread Services is seeking a Project Accountant with 3+ years of cost and/or construction accounting experience. This individual will be ultimately accountable for day-to-day project accounting, reporting and other duties in a fast-paced construction office. Project Accountants collaborate closely with all members of the project team (including Executives, Project Managers, Service Coordinators and other field/office staff) as well as other leaders across the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities The Project Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of the organization by maintaining accurate records, managing key accounting processes, overseeing payroll functions, and collaborating with various departments to ensure smooth and efficient workflows. This position requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and contributes to the company’s financial integrity and operational success. Duties and responsibilities generally include:
Manage respective project files, including contracts and amendments, in accordance with company policies.
Be responsible for timely and accurate preparation of owner billings, compliance and supporting documents as well as payment collections per terms.
Be responsible for understanding, educating and co-ordinating applicable local sales and/or receipts taxes.
Review monthly costs against Estimates at Completion (EAC) to ensure proper coding and budget performance.
Ownership and review of project financial data with project teams to ensure accuracy, including project setup and closure.
Reviews Work in Process (WIP) on assigned projects to confirm accuracy, as well as understand and explain margin changes, over/under billings and potential risk.
Support Controller(s) and leadership by actively communicating key updates or ad-hoc reporting for assigned projects.
Professionally interface with and respond to inquiries from outside parties such as clients and vendors.
Qualifications Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
3-6 years of experience in cost accounting
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
Ability to learn construction management and payment management software
Knowledge of the overall project execution process including budgeting, project forecasting, cost control, schedule, anticipated cost, and project profitability
Ability to communicate effectively, listens to understand, and can clearly convey information in all forms based on the audience to ensure shared meaning of the message
Acts inclusively by ensuring that actions and behaviors are respectful, shows empathy and treats others with dignity; leverages capabilities and insights of individuals with diverse perspectives, abilities, and motivation
Ability to solve problems by identifying, prioritizing, and implementing alternatives for a solution
