The State of Nebraska invites you to apply for the Automotive/Diesel Mechanic position at the Nebraska Department of Transportation in West Point, NE. This role provides tools and a supportive team environment keeping equipment operational across the state.
Base Pay Range $20,000.00/yr – $20,000.00/yr
Pay Rate $22.756 per hour.
Job Description As a Diesel Technician, you will perform high‑skill diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of heavy‑duty trucks, road construction and maintenance equipment, and other motorized equipment. Your responsibilities include:
Diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment.
Fabricate and repair equipment parts using welding techniques.
Calibrate systems on heavy‑duty vehicles.
Inspect new equipment and set it up for road‑readiness.
Adjust equipment for auxiliary attachments and operating systems.
Install, troubleshoot, and replace mechanical, electrical, computer, and hydraulic components.
Maintain hydraulics, electrical, steering, suspension, brake, drive train, fuel systems, and engines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Practical experience performing automotive/diesel maintenance and repair with computerized diagnostic instruments, OR post‑high school vocational/technical coursework in automotive/diesel mechanics including diagnostic equipment instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Automotive Diesel Mechanics with truck or heavy equipment repair experience; welding and fabrication experience; basic computer skills; ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days through the in‑house CDL training program.
Must be able to report for snow and other highway emergencies outside scheduled hours.
