Technical Production Lead .

The Technical Production Lead supports the Technical Director in managing all technical aspects of productions, events, and facility operations. This role oversees day-to-day technical operations, assists in crew supervision, and ensures that performances, rehearsals, and special events run smoothly. The Technical Production Lead helps maintain high-quality technical standards while upholding the organization's mission and safety protocols.

The

Technical Production Lead

is a key member of the Performing Arts production team, reporting directly to the Technical Director.

Key Responsibilities Production & Event Coordination Assist the Technical Director in planning and executing all technical elements for performances, concerts, and special events. Act as the primary on-site technical lead during rehearsals, performances, and rentals in the absence of the Technical Director. Coordinate with designers, directors, and performers to fulfill technical and artistic needs. Manage load-ins, technical rehearsals, show runs, and loadouts. Serve as a liaison between the production team, administrative staff, and visiting artists. Attend weekly Performing Arts production meetings as a collaborative and contributing member of the team. Assist with and manage video recordings as needed per artist request or archival purposes.

Technical Operations & Equipment Management Operate and assist in maintaining lighting, sound, video, and stage equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues before and during events. Ensure all technical equipment is properly stored, maintained, and inventoried. Implement and enforce safety protocols in compliance with industry standards.

Budget & Resource Support Support the Technical Director in managing production expenses to ensure adherence to the Performing Arts budget. Source and procure necessary technical equipment and materials as needed. Identify cost-effective solutions for technical needs.

Facility & Rental Support Assist with the technical setup and breakdown of rental clients and community events. Ensure rental clients’ technical needs are met while maintaining venue standards. Support general venue maintenance as needed.

Qualifications & Skills Required 5‑10 years of experience in technical production for live events or performing arts. Strong knowledge of lighting, audio, video, and stagecraft. Experience working with and supervising technical support crews. Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with theater safety regulations and best practices. Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Production Management, or related field. Experience working in a non‑profit or community arts organization. Proficiency with industry‑standard software (e.g., QLab, ETC lighting consoles, ProTools). Basic carpentry, rigging, or electrical skills.

Work Conditions Evening and weekend hours required based on performance schedules. Hands‑on work, including lifting, climbing, and working at heights. Collaborative and community‑driven environment with a mix of professional and volunteer staff.

VCA maintains a busy production schedule (over 100 events/year). This position will participate in the hands‑on production of events for high‑value or complex events, particularly those in the VCA Performing Arts Season (40‑50 events/year). As a condition of being able to schedule and coordinate the work, this position requires an in‑depth knowledge of AV and audio mixing, lighting, stagecraft, projection, and other production skills.

Compensation This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position. Salary: $28.85‑$31.25 hourly ($60,000‑$65,000 annually) commensurate with experience. VCA provides paid time off and holiday pay. This position is eligible to participate in medical, dental and 401k.
