Job Summary The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design, development and improvement in the manufacturing of Bowmar products for commercial and military aerospace applications. This role uses Lean Manufacturing and Lean Product Development processes and tools to drive both new product innovation and sustaining engineering initiatives with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Design and development of complex mechanical and electro‑mechanical products, specifying components and materials required to meet customer specifications for operation, reliability and performance.
Manage program technical requirements by analyzing customer specifications to develop product technical proposals and bills of material for quote submittals.
Develop and refine non‑recurring engineering and production labor times for product quotation.
Analyze and resolve complex product failures, troubleshoot systemic equipment issues, and define repair requirements for customer returns and in‑process non‑conformance conditions using advanced root‑cause analysis. Drive cross‑functional collaboration with electrical, manufacturing, quality, supply chain teams to ensure design manufacturability and product reliability.
Develop manufacturing routings, work instructions, procedures, illustrations and standard worksheets to maximize effectiveness and quality.
Lead product design process and reviews using Lean Product Development, Least Waste Way Project Planning and Value Stream Mapping.
Champion Continuous Improvement activities focusing on achieving the Highest Quality, Lowest Cost and Shortest Lead‑time.
Execute annual Strategic Deployment goals for the Engineering Department ensuring organizational commitments and KPIs are met.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on design best practices and problem‑solving methodologies.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Master’s degree in engineering is preferred.
10+ years of progressive, professional related experience in a manufacturing environment. Gearing experience highly desirable.
Working knowledge of AS9100, MIL‑STDs, and ITAR compliance is desirable.
Must be a team player.
Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical tolerancing.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Must have the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization.
Experience in a Lean environment.
Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Hands‑on and detail‑oriented approach with a passion for engineering excellence.
