Job Overview
The Packaging Mechanic (Packaging Set-Up Mechanic) will support all packaging operations by performing equipment installation, setup, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance in a cGMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role requires hands‑on mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced production setting while ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and compliance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Perform all activities in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain packaging equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
Maintain smooth operation of machinery and quickly address malfunctions to minimize downtime.
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
Identify and collect required repair parts from the storeroom.
Collaborate with fellow mechanics on equipment setup, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Maintain responsibility for Downtime, Changeover Time, Preventive Maintenance, and Productivity metrics.
Complete PM activities within required timelines to support equipment efficiency.
Document equipment issues using parts logbook and troubleshooting forms ("One Point Lesson").
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area with all equipment fully functional.
Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), during maintenance activities.
Recommend improvements to reduce maintenance costs and safety risks.
Restart machines efficiently when required by operational needs.
Provide immediate feedback to the Supervisor regarding unsafe equipment or conditions.
Adhere to Cipla’s Safety, Health, and Environmental policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must-Have Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
2–4 years of experience in packaging operations with mechanical repair and maintenance responsibilities, preferably in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced production environment and manage multiple tasks.
Basic to intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
Good basic math skills and strong focus on accuracy.
Eligible to work in the U.S. (US Citizen or Green Card Holder).
