Civil Engineer - Public Works
Role Description:
Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full‑time opportunity for a Civil Engineer (Eng IV) with
at least three years
of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer for our
Irvine office . This role works collaboratively in a team environment, providing engineering design for public works, hydrology/hydraulics, and utility projects.

Duties
Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration.
Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meetings.
Develop broad knowledge and skills in public works civil engineering, drainage, hydrology and hydraulics, storm water quality (LID, WQMP, SWPPP, SMARTS) and utilities.
Evaluate, select, and apply applicable standard plans/manuals, techniques, procedures, and criteria for conventional projects with few complex features.
Collaboratively use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non‑routine aspects of projects.
Work on small projects or portions of larger projects.
Perform moderate drainage design, hydrology and hydraulics analysis tasks.
Perform moderate stormwater quality tasks.
Prepare portions of project technical reports, plans, specifications and estimates.
Assign tasks to and coordinate work with entry‑level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff.
Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
Assist with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Understand, follow, and enforce Huitt‑Zollars' business process.
Productively collaborate with PMs and encourage teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other.
Understand and follow HZ QMS and quality initiatives; assist PM on ensuring that quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
Understand duties and responsibilities, possess necessary job knowledge and technical skills, and maintain current job knowledge.
Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the PM on assigned project tasks.
Contribute to successful delivery and performance of projects.
Complete assignments on time, within budget, and with the highest level of quality.
Routinely propose and produce more effective ways to accomplish tasks.
Assist PM as needed on work planning; prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Assist PM on ensuring proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
Assist PMs as needed on reviewing project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Assist PM in leading successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
3+ years of civil engineering design experience.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of California with a minimum of 3 years of public works design experience.
Proficient in HEC‑RAS, AutoCAD and Civil 3D (a plus).
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.

Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.

Annual Base Salary Range: $132,000‑$145,000 depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
