Advisor, TRIO SSS Disabilities College of Southern Nevada (CSN) offers more than a thousand community college credit programs, more than twenty professional programs, a Doctor of Pharmacy and a large number of high quality academic credentials for students with disabilities. This position is based in the Center for Student Success and Spreads the services and beliefs of CSN.

Job Description This Advisor position exists for the purpose of advising students who are participating in the TRIO Student Support Services Disabilities federal grant program. The position is expected to conceptualize, develop, and implement educational opportunities and services for students with disabilities that help promote academic and decision‑making skills leading to successful college graduation and admission into four‑year institutions. This position is also responsible for assisting the Director with recruiting students, creating workshops, presenting on college success strategies, building partnerships with other departments, and maintaining compliance with student records.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;

OR

equivalent combination of education and experience.

1 year of academic advising experience at a college or university.

Knowledge of academic advising principles and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

3+ years of academic advising experience working with students with disabilities.

Knowledge of Federal TRIO Programs.

The duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

The Advisor must have a working knowledge of advising, student development, retention, and student success best practices and strategies.

Demonstrated ability to provide effective academic, personal, financial, adjustment and career advisement to students with disabilities.

Exhibit excellent critical thinking skills through a demonstrated ability to interpret and evaluate explanations of problems of sensitive and complex nature, analyzing and defining issues obtained explicitly and implicitly from students, faculty and staff.

Demonstrated ability to evaluate and assess students' academic needs, strengths and weaknesses, and with students' input develop appropriate courses of action.

Able to develop, implement and present workshops pertaining to college success and advanced learning strategies, effective graduation planning, and transfer agreements.

Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of at‑risk and disadvantaged students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds typical of community college students.

Possess strong problem‑solving skills, resourcefulness, and demonstrated ability as a self‑starter planning and carrying out short‑term and long‑term action plan.

Must be approachable and personable and articulate with excellent writing, interpersonal and public speaking skills, and able to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.

Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA including ability to interpret and adhere to student privacy policies.

Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer database management.

Starting Salary Range Administrative Faculty B — The starting salary is $50,207.

This position is grant funded, and contingent upon ongoing and available funding through August 30, 2030.
