Project Overview Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is a top provider to the U.S. and British governments. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UPF is a multi‑year, multi‑billion‑dollar project that will replace a 70‑year‑old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities. The project may require overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
Job Summary Provide project field engineering support with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover. Contribute to safe, complete, and quality‑conforming field engineering activities.
Major Responsibilities
Coordinate the preparation of construction drawings, sketches, projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
Contribute to planning construction methods and procedures.
Initiate requisitions for field purchases.
Prepare quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
Verify commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems.
Ensure zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others, ensuring tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
Show interest in continuous learning and pursue appropriate learning activities.
Support construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and craft professionals in interpreting engineering design documents and vendor documents.
Develop firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.
Build system and area turnover packages both digitally and physically for turnover to startup and client.
Education and Experience Requirements
University hire with 1‑2 years of experience or 5‑6 years of relevant work experience.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must complete pre‑employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
Must obtain a site security badge for access to the work site.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD and/or commercial nuclear construction projects.
Self‑starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment.
Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as UPC, IBC, SMACNA, ASME, NFPA as well as NQA‑1 requirements.
Knowledge of environmental compliance standards required on NNSA/DOE projects.
