Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer – WSP
Join us at WSP in the U.S. for the Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer role. This position is open to offices in Dallas, TX; Austin, TX; Houston, TX; and San Antonio, TX.
Be involved in projects with our Transportation & Infrastructure Team and meet client objectives while solving their challenges.
Responsibilities
Assist with the research, design, concept development, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment.
Provide local technical assistance for design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects in public and private sectors.
Collect, compile, and analyze data from the site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, and geotechnical data to support project development.
Support basic professional civil engineering tasks related to research, inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, and resource alignment with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, operating strategies, and the safety and functionality of infrastructure.
Generate accurate and concise documentation via electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including data collection, engineering studies, surveys, and construction protocols.
Complete training on assigned tasks and uphold company policies, including the Code of Conduct.
Execute additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
0 to 1 years of relevant post‑education experience.
Excellent research skills and an analytical mindset.
Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build.
Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training certification.
Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS).
Prior internship related to degree of study and engineering discipline.
Member of or active participation in local professional practice organizations.
