Electrical Design Engineer

This role is responsible for designing electric distribution layouts for residential and commercial customers. The position combines technical design work, customer coordination, and field assessments to deliver accurate, construction-ready utility designs. Work is performed using a GIS-based design system, with collaboration across engineering, service, and gas design teams.
Key Responsibilities Design & Technical Work Create, revise, and maintain electric distribution designs using GIS and drafting tools. Produce 2D (and occasional 3D) drawings for underground cable routing, transformer sizing, and pole placement. Interpret customer requirements, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. Prepare supporting documentation including bills of material, schedules, and drawing transmittals. Update designs based on field conditions, engineering feedback, and construction requirements.
Project & Customer Coordination Manage multiple design projects simultaneously from intake through final design. Communicate directly with residential and commercial customers regarding scope, requirements, and timelines. Coordinate with internal engineering, service, and gas design teams to align project plans. Support engineering personnel with design clarifications and construction-related questions.
Field Work Conduct local field visits to assess site conditions and existing infrastructure. Verify measurements, access points, and constructability prior to finalizing designs. Field work accounts for approximately 30% of the role.
