Job Overview
Highly skilled specialized role within the Palm Tran Maintenance Department requiring advanced technical work performing maintenance, installations, programming, diagnosing, and repairing Transit Fleet Electronic Systems. These vehicle electronic systems include Dispatching Enterprise Systems, Audio/Video Systems, Radio/Communications Technologies, On Board Media Systems, Electronic Signage, Fare Collection Systems, Fleet GPS Tracking Systems, Wireless Routers and Cellular Data Communication, Public Address, Voice Annunciation, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Digital Video Recorders (DVR’s), Automatic Vehicle Locators, and Mobile Two-Way Radios.
Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, installations, programming, diagnostics, and repairs on transit fleet electronic systems.
Work with various electronic subsystems such as dispatching, audio/video, radio communications, media, signage, fare collection, GPS tracking, routers, cellular, CCTV, DVRs, vehicle locators, and radios.
Operate at heights up to a 20‑foot ladder and handle tools necessary for electronic equipment repairs.
Walk, sit, stand, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds to support equipment maintenance.
Comply with drug and alcohol testing provisions required for safety‑sensitive employees.
Qualifications
High school diploma or recognized certificate (GED).
Four (4) years of related vehicle electronic and/or mechanical experience or equivalent combination.
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Standard set of tools for repair of transit electronic equipment.
Ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 pounds.
Compliance with drug and alcohol testing.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Electronics or completion of a two‑year technical/vocational electronics program.
1000 hours of military training in electronics.
Experience installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic systems in marine or aftermarket automobile electronics.
Proficiency with MS Word, Office, Excel, and a computerized maintenance management system.
Certificate as an electronics technician from ISCET, APCO, FCC General Radio Telephone (GROL), or an Amateur Radio License.
