Summary Individuals in this position move or rig large, heavy, or specialized machinery and equipment. This full‑time role reports to the General Manager and may initially report to a Job Leader, Foreman, or Project Manager. Drivers of tractor/trailer combinations with a Class A CDL are required. The position may also involve millwright services or support of warehousing or equipment repair operations and can have occasional or frequent overtime.

Duties & Responsibilities – Primary

Move large or heavy objects into desired positions or control movement of machinery or equipment through narrow openings, confined or elevated spaces, or routes presenting technical challenges.

Select equipment such as shackles, slings, spreaders, jacks, hoists, pulleys, winches, levers, lift trucks, beams, clamps, etc., based on load weight, size, facility, environment, and schedule.

Apply rigging hardware and equipment safely, perform daily or pre‑use inspections, and store equipment properly.

Safely use a variety of trailers (tilt‑bed, detachable, beaver tail, extending frame, curtain side, step decks, drops, van trailers) as appropriate.

Load and secure items on trucks, trailers, or containers using load‑securement devices in accordance with company practices, procedures, and governing requirements. Use tarps when necessary.

Operate specialized heavy lifting and moving equipment such as lift trucks with forks or booms, Versa‑Lifts, personnel lifts, manual and hydraulic gantries, sliders, jacking systems, hoists, and more.

Read basic load charts for cranes, lift trucks, and other lifting equipment.

Lift, slide, tilt, lower, or maneuver loads into position over, under, or around obstacles using single or multi‑point suspension techniques.

Visually signal or verbally direct others engaged in hoisting or movement to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Assist in match‑marking, dismantling, or disassembling machinery and equipment for relocation or reinstallation, and perform reassembly or reinstallation when required.

Estimate weight and center of gravity using material weights and volumetric or square‑foot calculations.

Align, level, and anchor machinery using precision levels and straightedges.

Ensure compliance with safe rigging practices at every step.

Follow rigging plans and instructions, job instructions, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) to complete assigned work.

Prioritize safety of self and others as the top priority.

Protect precision and machined surfaces during rigging and handling.

Perform daily inspections of tools, equipment, trucks, and trailers as required.

Use effective interpersonal skills to communicate and maintain positive relationships with team members and external contacts, vendors, and customers.

Contribute to company and leadership team goals.

Complete all required documentation on time, including Job Leader Reports, timecards, time sheets, additional work authorizations, inspection reports, DOT documents, etc.

Abide by all company rules, policies, and safety rules and assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and professional work environment.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend process changes or initiate improvements.

Model a positive, supportive, professional work environment.

Work additional hours as business needs require.

As business conditions require, individuals may work with field crews assisting in mechanics moving and rigging projects. Other areas of assistance include, but are not limited to, servicing and repair of lift trucks or other heavy equipment, small tool and equipment repair, and warehouse or yard operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Experience / Qualifications / Standards

Technical school certification or advanced degree in diesel engines and or related field; knowledge of hydraulics is essential.

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to read and communicate in English, both verbally and written.

Effectively and accurately complete detailed work with a sense of urgency, maintaining safety and demonstrating safe operating procedures.

Additional Requirements

Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen.

Willing to complete a pre‑employment physical.

Work Environment

Heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 lbs of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly.

Need strength, stamina, and mobility to perform indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Walk, lift, reach, stoop, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.

Operate machinery, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job‑specific equipment.

Determine accuracy and thoroughness of work.

Perform all work safely in a fast‑paced environment.

Wear required personal protective equipment such as hand, eye, hearing protection, fall protection, and others as required.
