Diesel Maintenance Technician (B) Job Overview Vehicle Technician B will repair and maintain all types of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel‑powered equipment. They will perform duties independently with limited supervision, and provide mentoring and assistance to Vehicle Technician C's as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform electrical, mechanical diagnostic, and repair work on customer vehicles and equipment, including trailers and diesel‑powered equipment.
Carry out various equipment repairs such as drive chain components, automatic brake systems, etc. to an intermediate level of experience and system knowledge.
Maintain accurate parts inventory, research and resolve inventory discrepancies, and notify maintenance management when a resolution is not available.
Maintain a clean and safe work area and warehouse.
Perform other tasks as determined and requested by management.
Work in the Maintenance software system to record data, ensure DOT compliance, and follow up on return orders.
Serve as a mentor for Vehicle Technicians C, as needed; may perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic welding and cutting torch operation skills
Basic electrical, mechanical diagnostics, and repair skills
Understanding of tire inflation systems
Knowledge and ability to mount and dismount tires
Basic diagnostic tool skills
Ability to schedule and prioritize daily tasks
Must adhere to company uniform and appearance standards
Professional and appropriate interaction with internal and external customers
Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions for tools, equipment, machinery, and materials used to power, hand, diagnostic tools, operate material handling equipment
Must be capable of driving company equipment including Class 8 tractors under work conditions
Must be able to work a flexible schedule and vary start and end times, possibly including weekends and holidays
Basic computer skills
Each technician must provide their own tools
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
High school diploma or GED
Knowledge acquired through 3‑5 years of relevant work experience
DOT Brake Inspection certification
Ability to obtain a DOT medical certificate
