Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to project teams developing new designs for process systems supporting automotive and aerospace research and testing facilities
Take ownership of technical performance, including schedule and budget, for assigned work
Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering tasks under the guidance of a senior engineer, adapting techniques and procedures as needed
Analyze engineering challenges using sound principles and best practices
Review results of assigned work for completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation
Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal project management and client communication
Perform formal checks of others’ work to ensure quality and completeness
Collaborate closely with engineers in structural, machine design, controls and instrumentation, and aerodynamics/fluid dynamics disciplines
Size and specify piping and ducting systems and components, including compressors, pumps, fans, valves, flow meters, and fluid conditioning equipment
Design a variety of specialized systems, including: high-pressure cryogenic and pneumatic piping systems, high-temperature systems such as steam, refrigeration, vacuum, and fuel systems, and specialty HVAC systems and components
Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality
Support Project Managers and Senior Engineers during all phases of design
Participate in internal and client-facing meetings and design reviews
Gather information from stakeholders, perform calculations, and develop initial layouts and design concepts
Provide installation support and supervision, coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and trades on-site and remotely
Generate engineering calculations, write specifications, and oversee the creation of engineering drawings
Travel as needed to support design reviews, factory acceptance testing, construction, and startup/commissioning activities
Contribute to proposal development and marketing efforts to secure new work
Perform field work, including climbing on test stands and working around active machinery
Work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet project deadlines and budget requirements
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
Minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience
Prior experience designing process systems is preferred
Strong self-motivation with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Proven ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in: common process piping systems, and mechanical and process engineering analysis
Strong oral and written communication
Technical problem solving and organizational skills
Ethical standards and a commitment to professional development and teamwork
US Citizenship is required due to federal work requirements
Experience managing project scope, schedule, and budget is a plus
Experience in creating process layouts, drawings, and specifications
Familiarity with relevant industry codes, including ASME B311, B313, and the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code
Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics (compressible and incompressible), thermal sciences, and process system design
Preferred software experience includes: AutoCAD, AutoPIPE, Caesar II, Mathcad, Creo, AFT (such as Fathom or Arrow)
