Job in a Nutshell The Produce Assistant supports the Produce Manager in operations and profitability of the produce department. Responsibilities
Provide world‑class customer service as a top priority.
Exemplify integrity, responsibility, and excellence; adhere to all policies.
Create an inviting, well‑stocked produce department.
Assist the produce manager in ordering, inventory accuracy, and margin management.
Maintain produce racks daily, keeping them fresh, full, and abundant.
Cull, crisp, rotate, and properly handle/stash produce.
Ensure only certified organic produce is ordered and received.
Guarantee all in‑stock items meet company standards.
Clean tools/equipment per health department and company standards.
Receive incoming produce orders per standard procedures.
Offer and follow up on special orders.
Assist with training and monitoring of department personnel.
Conduct active and passive demos.
Work with the manager to address departmental performance issues.
Handle register functions, including backup cashiering, customer returns, complaints, and shift coverage.
Maintain safety and security for customers and employees.
Answer customer questions per company standards, including structure/functional statements.
Continuously increase product knowledge.
Use email and IS programs as needed.
Complete DSR and closing cash processes when required.
Work a schedule that includes evenings, weekends, holidays; five days, 40 hours per week; attend mandatory meetings.
Limited Manager on Duty functions; never overall Manager on Duty for the store.
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
Preferred: 1+ year experience in grocery, retail, or produce; natural foods background a plus.
Preferred: 1+ year experience supervising.
Ability to pass required food safety training and maintain certifications.
Adaptation to changing priorities while staying focused.
Sense of urgency in task completion.
Excellent customer service skills.
Highly organized with attention to detail.
Ability to take direction and follow through.
Cashier trained and able to count currency.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
