Junior Estimator - Building Automations

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Building Automation Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost and scope of building automation systems for commercial and residential projects. This role involves analyzing plans, preparing bids, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring the projects are priced competitively while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Review project specifications, drawings, and related documents to understand the full scope of the building automation systems required
Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for building automation systems, including HVAC controls, plumbing systems, lighting control, energy management, and other systems
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements and provide accurate cost and time estimates
Assess the feasibility of building automation systems based on the design, site conditions, and available materials
Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to source pricing, materials, and labor
Ensure that all estimates are aligned with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
Collaborate with the sales team to develop and present proposals to clients
Provide support during the bid review and selection process
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technological advancements, and market pricing
Prepare and submit detailed reports, including cost breakdowns, schedules, and any assumptions made in the estimation process
Review and identify value-engineering opportunities to optimize costs and enhance project profitability
Assist with contract negotiation and change order management during project execution
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related fields
Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Detail‑oriented with a high degree of accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience (typically 3‑5 years) as an estimator or in a similar role within building automation, construction, or HVAC industries
Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards
Strong understanding of building automation systems, including HVAC, lighting controls, energy management, and security systems
Certification in building automation systems (e.g., from a recognized trade organization or industry body)
Experience with building codes and energy standards such as LEED or ASHRAE
Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design software for reviewing plans
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for long periods while working on the computer
Ability to occasionally visit construction sites, which may require walking, bending, or lifting up to 30 pounds, climbing ladders, etc.
Working Conditions
Full‑time, office‑based with occasional travel to client sites as needed
Flexible working hours may be required to meet project deadlines
