Manufacturing Quality Assurance & Improvement Engineer, Forest City, NC
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to drive continuous improvement and ensure product and process excellence through the implementation and oversight of the Quality Management System (QMS). The role provides essential support to manufacturing operations, leads problem‑solving efforts, maintains certification standards, and serves as a key liaison for internal and external quality‑related matters.
Domestic relocation support may be provided. Work authorization support is not available.
Responsibilities
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for plant quality issues.
Facilitate and coordinate 8D problem‑solving teams.
Support and verify implementation of permanent corrective actions.
Identify and lead quality improvement initiatives aligned with plant objectives.
Interface with customers to resolve concerns and manage returns, credits, and complaints.
Support new product launches by participating in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
Perform and document PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions.
Maintain quality records and monitor critical process data collection.
Maintain Control Plans and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
Support ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certifications, audits, and document control.
Provide training to employees on quality tools, procedures, and standards.
Maintain calibration and preventive maintenance of laser measurement and lab equipment.
Collaborate with Engineering and cross‑functional teams on quality‑related projects.
Lead and support the application of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Danfoss Business System).
Prepare and present internal and customer‑facing reports and metrics.
Maintain professional communication with coworkers, customers, and auditors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience (for experienced professionals: 5+ years of quality engineering experience with 10+ years of manufacturing experience and active pursuit of an engineering degree).
Proficient knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
Strong understanding of quality tools: FMEA, SPC, DOE, APQP, 8D.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office; familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP).
Strong working knowledge of Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and lean tools.
Excellent problem‑solving, project management, and technical reporting skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
Comfortable communicating with all organizational levels and external stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced, customer‑driven environment.
Willingness to engage in hands‑on tasks, including inspection, rework, and audits.
Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
Ability to work in typical manufacturing environments (dust, noise, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a quality engineering or manufacturing role (preferred but not required for recent graduates).
Internship or project experience in quality control, process improvement, or manufacturing operations (for entry‑level applicants).
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
Experience in extrusion or hose manufacturing environments.
