SB&O is seeking a licensed and experienced Professional Land Surveyor to support our land surveying operations in San Diego and the Inland Empire region. This individual will oversee all field and office survey staff, manage survey project delivery, and play a key role in the business development efforts for the Inland Empire.
The ideal candidate is a licensed land surveyor with strong technical capabilities, leadership experience, and a proven track record of developing new business, building client relationships, and preparing proposals for both public and private sector projects.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support all Inland Empire survey staff, including party chiefs, field crews, and in‑office technical personnel.
Oversee resource planning, scheduling, backlog management, and workflow efficiency.
Ensure quality control and compliance on all survey deliverables, including boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, topographic/design surveys, construction staking, subdivision mapping, legal descriptions and exhibits, record of survey and corner records.
Serve as surveyor in charge, providing technical review and sign‑off where required.
Lead coordination with internal civil engineering teams and external consultants.
Monitor project budgets, schedules, scope changes, and deliverables.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, developers, agencies, contractors, and industry partners.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities across public infrastructure, private development, and institutional markets.
Lead the preparation of estimates, proposals, qualification packages, and marketing materials for survey‑related opportunities.
Participate in interviews, presentations, and strategic teaming efforts.
Develop and maintain a network of contacts and opportunities within professional organizations.
Support company growth by contributing to BD strategy, revenue forecasting, and long‑term planning for the Inland Empire region.
Required Qualifications
Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in California (Required)
5+ years of relevant land surveying experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory or business development role
Proven experience estimating and pursuing survey projects, including proposal writing and client presentations
Knowledge of ALTA/NSPS standards, the California Subdivision Map Act, and local land use regulations
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and survey data processing workflows
Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship‑building skills
Valid California Driver’s License and availability to travel within the region

Collaborates With: Vice President of Surveying and BD Team
