Position Overview As a Civil Engineer specializing in land development you will play an integral role in transforming conceptual site plans into engineered, construction-ready solutions. Working within an interdisciplinary team of surveyors, planners, and landscape architects, you will design the civil infrastructure for residential, commercial, industrial and municipal developments—ensuring compliance with site grading, utilities, stormwater/drainage, and permitting standards. You’ll help drive high-quality, cost-effective results that align with the firm’s 20+ years of experience in site/civil design and engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed civil engineering drawings and specifications for land-development projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, utilities (both sanitary and storm), and roadway access.
Coordinate with surveying and land-planning teams to perform site reconnaissance, investigate topography, soil conditions, utilities and infrastructure constraints.
Produce construction documentation (plans, profiles, cross-sections, details) and support permit submittals to municipalities, sanitary/utility districts, and regulatory agencies.
Work with AutoCAD Civil 3D (or equivalent) to model site geometry, grading surfaces, earthwork quantities, and utility routing.
Provide quality-control review of designs (own work and that of junior designers), ensuring constructability, adherence to budgets and schedules, and alignment with client objectives.
Collaborate closely with clients, internal production teams, external consultants, and regulatory reviewers to address design revisions, agency comments, and construction-phase clarifications.
Assist in value-engineering efforts, cost estimating and scheduling to ensure projects meet financial, functional and operational goals.
Stay current on local and state design standards, construction practices, zoning/regulatory frameworks and sustainable site design (e.g., low-impact development, green infrastructure) and apply them proactively in project execution.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related) from an accredited university.
2-5 years (or more) of experience in land development/site-civil engineering (residential, commercial, industrial or municipal).
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (modeling, grading, utility design) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical and design skills: earthwork/grading, drainage/stormwater, utility coordination, civil detailing.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and communicate effectively (verbal and written).
EIT certificate is preferred; willingness to pursue PE licensure is a plus.
Preferred Attributes
Experience in Kentucky or surrounding region municipalities and understanding local regulatory / permitting processes.
Familiarity with green infrastructure, bioswales, sustainable site design, and how they integrate into land-development infrastructure.
Ability to mentor or review work of junior engineers/designers and contribute to CAD standards and workflows.
