Summary The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities in accordance with GAAP and IRS regulations.

Essential Functions
The Staff Accountant is charged with the day‑to‑day accounting for the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. In this position the Staff Accountant will support the senior level financial staff in the preparation of all financial reports and be primarily accountable for the maintenance of the company’s financial records. The Staff Accountant is also required to develop a strong understanding and command of the company’s operations and all interrelated financial data sources and supplemental systems.
Duties and Tasks
Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
Assembly of monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
Maintenance of the general ledger.
Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
Provides external auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
Interact regularly with all departmental managers and company executives, provide constructive feedback to support costs controls management and growth opportunities for the company.
Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
Maintains knowledge and proficiency over all purchasing and invoicing systems.
Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field.
Experience: Preferred 3 years or more of related experience.
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strength in oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, mathematical skills, and attention to detail.
Proficient in general financial accounting and cost accounting, including analytical and reporting functions.
Strong command and commitment to generally accepted accounting principles.
Proficient in the preparation of federal, state, and local required tax filings.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and accounting software.
Demonstrated ability to perform in a dynamic atmosphere, managing and prioritizing tasks and demands.
Physical: Able to work prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds, as required.
