Electrical Estimator
Join EIG Electrical Systems as an Electrical Estimator. This role is based in Charlotte, NC and is part of Evergreen Innovation Group, a division of the DPR Family of Companies.
About the Role As an Electrical Estimator, you will primarily work on negotiated electrical commercial projects within our core markets of healthcare, higher education, advanced technology, life sciences, and other commercial sectors. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors to deliver accurate cost estimates and support project success.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate understanding and enthusiastic agreement with the vision and mission of EIG.
Handle the project from first estimate through project handoff.
Ask the right questions and provide a complete project cost evaluation beyond the information given.
Act as a collaborative advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
Provide innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and products or materials.
Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic and feasibility level documentation.
Update estimates and develop variance summaries as the design evolves.
Assemble a complete presentation-worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
Collaborate with the project team to establish staffing and project requirements.
Use knowledge of unit costs and construction cost factors.
Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
Manage the bidding process: solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate subcontractor proposals, use bid tally sheets, etc.
Recommend subcontractor awards to the customer/owner and negotiate and finalize subcontracts with trade partners.
Participate in and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to the customer/owner.
Assist the team with request for proposal responses (RFPs) and formal project presentations.
Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
Participate actively in Value Engineering sessions with the project and design teams.
Required Skills and Abilities
Flexible, detail-oriented team player who can manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Creative and innovative approaches to problem solving on a project-by-project basis.
Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
Effective participation in a team environment, both externally and internally.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (WinEst, Timberline, or similar), take-off software (Accubid Livecount or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
Education and Experience
5+ years of experience in Electrical Commercial Construction as an Estimator, preferably within DPR core markets.
Bachelor’s degree a plus, but not required.
Field experience a plus, but not required.
Experience with Design/Build and Design/Assist projects a plus.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Travel to and from the office and assigned job site(s).
