Prince William County will be hiring its first ever Climate Risk and Resilience Manager under the Office of Sustainability. This position will serve as a subject matter expert for developing and managing projects and programs that contribute to the County’s climate resilience goal and tracking progress towards the goal.
About This Role This new full-time position will be supporting implementation of the County’s Community Energy and Sustainability Master Plan (CESMP), which includes action strategies around climate adaptation and resilience.
The Climate Risk and Resilience Manger position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing climate adaptation, and resiliency strategies to meet the county’s goal of becoming climate resilient by the year 2030.
They will work across internal departments, external agencies, and community stakeholders to stand up programs and projects that mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect natural resources.
The work will build upon mitigations for climate risks that were identified in the County’s Vulnerability Assessment including flooding, extreme temperatures, and electric grid resiliency.
This position will also serve as a liaison with the Office of Emergency Management supporting resilience planning, hazard mitigation efforts, and increase community outreach and engagement with all aspects of the community, including the private sector.
They will participate in the County’s Hazard Mitigation Workgroup, as well as, support the implementation of the County’s Flood Resilience Plan.
In addition, this position will support the exploration and execution of programmatic improvements to increase climate resilience and hazard mitigation efforts.
Work will be conducted under the direct supervision of the Office of Sustainability Director.
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED accompanied by seven (7) years of experience developing, implementing, and managing climate adaptation and resiliency strategies, including, but not limited to, flood resilience, hazard mitigation, or other natural hazards resiliency or vulnerability planning on a community-wide scale.
Preferences Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university in Environmental or Systems Planning, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Management, Resilience, Hazard Mitigation, or a similar field. Applied experience demonstrating a strong understanding of community resilience, climate adaptation, hazard mitigation, flood mitigation, risk assessment, nature-based solutions, social equity, decision support tools, risk communication, and stakeholder engagement. Experience analyzing proposed land use projects for potential impacts on natural resources. Experience with collecting and reporting data that involves multiple agencies or organizations. Ability to present complex technical information in understandable terms. Experience with quantifying the value of ecosystem services. Experience researching, planning, and developing operational plans, policies, procedures, and guidance to promote resilience and mitigation.
Work Schedule Works Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm. May have to attend meetings or events outside of the set work hours a few times a quarter. This position would allow for telework two days a week.
Hiring Salary Range $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annual
