Mechanical Engineer – Mid-Level
Leidos’ Defense Systems Manufacturing Segment is seeking a
Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer
to join our Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) Team located in Huntsville, AL. This role is part of our mission to deliver innovative defense solutions across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for delivering, maintaining, and improving ground support equipment, tooling, and assembly fixtures.
Design and create drawings for production tooling and supporting equipment.
Revise current designs or create new designs to facilitate process improvements.
Interface with operations team to understand roadblocks impeding production flow.
Create bills of materials and work with procurement to order hardware for ground support equipment and/or tooling needed for the production build process.
Disposition non‑conformances of ground support equipment and/or tooling.
Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure work instructions accurately depict processes for utilizing ground support equipment and/or tooling.
Play a key role in tooling engineering efforts to help map the production process flow and optimize manufacturing tooling needs.
Identify and execute on continuous improvement projects.
Monitor status of tooling jobs to ensure they meet schedule requirements and report job status to management using spreadsheets, custom reports, etc.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with 4–8 years of applicable experience, or Master’s degree with 2–6 years of prior relevant experience.
Proficient in CAD software (e.g., Creo, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Ability to work tasks with limited direction and provide clarification and instruction to others.
Implement GD&T (ASME Y14.5‑2009) methods and tolerance stack‑ups on parts and assemblies.
Works within integrated teams supporting drawing modification and production activities.
Experience leading issue resolution in a manufacturing environment.
Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Eagerness to learn and grow within the organization.
Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville‑North Alabama, AL area.
US Citizen with a Final Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior work in DoD missile or aerospace fields.
Prior experience in tooling and production environments.
Prior work creating engineering drawings using PTC Creo and Windchill.
Prior work designing mechanical ground support equipment or tooling needed for production use.
Understanding of cost and schedule implications of typical engineering deliverables.
Experience working in rapidly changing development programs.
Experience with Deltek, Costpoint ERP & MRP, Solumina, Windchill.
Experience with ISO9001/AS9100 processes.
Pay Range $87,100.00 – $157,450.00 (general guideline only).
