Sr. Scientist Process Innovation Engineer

Job Summary The Process Innovation Engineer/Scientist will play a critical role in developing and implementing innovative delivery systems for food ingredients and innovate both within Kalsec, Inc.’s core competencies and beyond. This position will work closely with cross‑functional teams to design, optimise, and scale processes that align with Kalsec’s strategic objectives for innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
Design and develop novel delivery systems for food ingredients to enhance stability, functionality, and performance in various applications.
Collaborate with formulation scientists and other R&D teams to translate concepts into scalable processes.
Conduct experimental design, process optimisation, and validation for new technologies and formulations.
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and product quality.
Prepare technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, SOPs, and validation reports.
Provide technical expertise to the different Business Unit Directors, thereby enhancing Kalsec’s technical reputation, while supporting customers with advanced technical presentations.
Support commercialisation efforts by working with manufacturing teams to scale up processes from lab to pilot and production scale.
Ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and quality standards throughout the development process.
Present technical findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and customers as needed.
Education & Experience Required
Master’s degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
3+ years of experience in process development, formulation, or related roles in the food, beverage, or ingredient industry.
Strong understanding of food ingredient functionality, encapsulation, and delivery systems.
Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and project management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional team environment.
Desired
Knowledge of emulsions, encapsulation technologies, and controlled release systems.
Hands‑on experience with spray dryer, fluid bed dryer, microfluidiser and other homogenisation techniques.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for food ingredients.
