Mortgage Loan Officer

Responsibilities
Pre-qualify members and choose appropriate loan plan options.
Interview members to complete applications, gather necessary documents, assemble loan files, issue preliminary disclosures, and prepare loan applications for processing.
Advise members on loan process timelines, rates, fees, APR, and other key financing elements.
Cross-sell additional credit union products and services that complement and enhance member financial well‑being.
Participate and pass all required Continuing Education work as requested by Chartway and regulatory agencies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Solid understanding of the real estate industry, home purchase market, and home‑buying life cycle.
Knowledgeable of mortgage program guidelines for credit union‑approved mortgage loan products, Loan Estimate, Closing Disclosure, TRID, interest rates, and APR.
Compliance with federal, state, and local laws and credit union policy related to Fair Credit, Equal Housing Opportunity, Truth in Lending, and Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
Excellent sales skills to match member needs with credit union products and effectively position benefits for first‑mortgage financing.
Ability to coach and train team members to generate mortgage referrals.
Ability to organize, plan, develop, and deliver home‑buying seminars to both Realtors and members.
Ability to build a network of mortgage referral sources within the community.
Excellent communication and public‑relations skills for building relationships with internal and external contacts.
Education & Experience
Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 2–3 years of first‑mortgage lending sales experience, including both purchase and refinance loans.
