This is advanced, responsible, financial analysis work. Employees in this classification are assigned specific responsibility for one or more departmental functions.
Work involves financial analysis, reporting and problem solving. General supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for conformity with established financial, administrative, and departmental policies and attainment of desired objectives, through conferences and review of reports
Capital Asset Processing and Reporting
Update and maintain the capital asset module in the Munis System for new and existing capital assets including asset identification tagging.
Review and reconcile monthly general ledger expenditure detail to identify capital outlay expenditures that should be capitalized as capital assets.
Ensure that the capital asset records are accurate and in agreement with the accounting records through the preparation of monthly/quarterly reconciliations between the capital asset module and the general ledger module.
Assist in the planning and coordination of the City-wide capital asset physical inventory process, including preparation of capital asset reports.
Review of departmental disposal requests to ensure the accuracy of asset information based on information reported in the capital asset module.
Assist with the development of written processes and procedures for identifying, tracking, transferring, reporting, and as requested, disposing of capital assets.
Perform basic period system functions such as calculating periodic depreciation expense.
Research and resolve accounting problems related to capital assets, as needed.
Follow guidelines and formal disposition instructions for grant funded assets exceeding Federal/State accountability levels.
Monitor agenda items to detect commission action related to property acquisition and disposals
Generate year end reports and prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and respond to auditor inquiries.
Perform other duties and special projects assigned, as needed.
REQUIRED
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, business related field or Engineering
At least two (2) years’ experience working with the accounting/finance department - capital asset accounting and reporting preferred. (1 year in the accounting department or auditing can be substituted with 1 year working in a capital assets field)
Intermediate/expert Microsoft Excel skills
Intermediate accounting knowledge

Experience working with Tyler Munis Financial System Software
Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
2 years’ experience working with capital assets in a municipality/not for profit or private organization.
Experience working with capital assets reporting or auditing of capital assets
