Job Summary The Billing Manager at SPO oversees the daily operations of the billing and front office teams, including billing supervisors and staff, coding staff, prior authorization staff, and reception supervisors and staff. This role is responsible for assigning duties, providing training and guidance, and ensuring efficient and accurate department operations. The Billing Manager works closely with team members to maintain compliance with payer standards, optimize workflows, and uphold the mission, policies, and initiatives of SPO. Strong leadership, effective communication, and a commitment to patient confidentiality are essential in this role.

Essential Job Functions Billing and Coding Oversight:

Ensure all medical services are accurately coded and billed in compliance with regulations to maximize reimbursement.

Revenue Cycle Management:

Oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle, including claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and accounts receivable follow‑up.

Insurance and Patient Relations:

Collaborate with insurance providers and collection agencies and resolve patient account concerns in a professional and diplomatic manner.

Reporting and Analysis:

Generate detailed reports on billing activities, analyze financial data, and monitor performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.

Regulatory Compliance:

Stay up to date on all relevant healthcare regulations, coding updates, and insurance guidelines to ensure ongoing compliance.

Job Qualifications

Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in medical billing, insurance claims processing, and accounts receivable management.

Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a healthcare building.

Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD‑10 and insurance reimbursement practices.

Experience with EMR and practice management systems.

Special Skills/Experience

A 2‑year college degree or certification in medical office administration or medical billing is preferred.

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) credentials are advantageous.

Demonstrates strong knowledge of health insurance benefits and payment processes.

Has previous experience in orthopedics or spine specialties.

Possesses proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with excellent typing, computer, and organizational skills for managing multiple tasks effectively.

Works independently, meets deadlines, and follows verbal and written instructions.

Communicates tactfully with staff and providers, especially in challenging scenarios.
