Position Highlights
Full‑time, 40 hours per week
Monday through Friday
First Shift
Location: 165 Capitol Ave., Hartford, CT 06106
Eligible for hybrid telework after successful completion of initial training.
The Role
Serve as a liaison between school district reporting entities and the agency.
Provide customer service to teachers across the state in support of the pension system.
Additional duties may include auditing, reconciling, accounts payable, and 1099 reporting.
Other related duties as assigned.

Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work) In a state agency this class is accountable for performing a combination of basic professional and highly complex clerical work in accounting or financial examination.
Examples of Duties
Maintain an interrelated group of accounts, including classifying and recording transactions, taking trial balances, and reconciling accounts.
Prepare simple financial statements and assist in preparing complex financial statements.
Examine financial documents for accuracy and compliance, reviewing related records, provisions, and regulations.
Maintain accounts receivable, including billing, adjustments, cancellations, and computing interest and penalties.
Calculate rates using complex arithmetical formulas.
Manage accounts payable, including disbursement records, charge distribution, encumbrances, authorizations, and invoice auditing.
Gather and consolidate payroll and expenditure data to facilitate budget preparation.
Ensure expenditures and encumbrances remain within appropriation limits.
Ensure routine payments comply with contract provisions.
Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Knowledge:
Bookkeeping and financial record‑keeping principles and practices.
Basic governmental accounting principles, including general accounting, accounts payable, receivable, and budget control.
Skills:
Interpersonal skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Considerable:
Arithmetical ability.
Auditing ability.
Ability to:
Understand and apply statutes and regulations.
Utilize electronic data processing (EDP) systems for financial information.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience Four (4) years of experience in complex clerical accounting or financial examining work. Independent responsibility for routine bookkeeping, financial record‑keeping, or financial record examination at the level of a Financial Clerk.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed
College training may be substituted for the general experience: fifteen (15) semester hours = one‑half (½) year of experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.
One (1) year as a Pre‑Professional Trainee in an accounting class may be substituted for the general experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with financial systems such as PeopleSoft or Core‑CT.
Experience with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP functions, and queries.
Experience in accounting: auditing accounts, performing reconciliations, analyzing and calculating financial data.
Experience interpreting and applying statutes and regulations.
Experience with oral and written communication.
Experience in customer service within a call‑center environment.
