Position Summary:

The Admissions Outreach and Recruitment Specialist supports all areas of outreach and recruitment, working closely with Admissions Counselors, Transfer Center, Registrar’s Office and Director of Admissions to support strategic enrollment initiatives. Incumbent will be proactive and responsive to the needs of prospects, applicants and admitted students and their families. The role also assumes responsibility for recurring daily and weekly duties associated with the management of the admissions office.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain presence in Admissions Office to provide in‑person assistance to those interested in Cal Poly Humboldt and the application/admissions process; also respond to inquiries via phone, email and virtually.

Direct outreach to prospective applicants using phone, email, handwritten, and SMS.

Direct outreach to admitted students using phone, email, handwritten, and SMS.

Responsible for weekly “Counselor of the Day” duties; primary responsibility for responding to inbound phone calls and emails, resolving issues and directing them to appropriate parties.

Be available to spend one day per week at College of Redwoods, supporting partnership and facilitating transfer enrollment.

Regularly conduct admission and pre‑admission appointments covering FTF, UDT and LDT admissions requirements.

Conduct evaluations of applicants for admission within the CSU framework and Humboldt specific requirements.

Be knowledgeable and comfortable using Slate, PeopleSoft, Microsoft and Google Suite.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a high‑speed educational environment characterized by multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions.

Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to conduct one‑on‑one sessions with students to contribute to their progress at the university.

Ability to make good observations and decisions to facilitate admission.

Fluency and proficiency in using standard office software, particularly Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience working with database systems.

Clear and effective communication with students, staff, administrators and the general public in various settings.

Ability to balance customer service with compliance to university, state and federal rules regarding confidential information; abide by FERPA.

Ability to track a large amount of detailed information to provide accurate counseling.

Ability to learn and interpret regulations and policies; and to work in a highly automated environment.

Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year experience working with the public. Four years applicable experience can be substituted for Bachelor’s degree. One year of working with students in an academic setting preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of California State University (CSU) admission requirements, CSU Admissions Handbook.

Experience in higher education setting.

Experience providing excellent customer service.

Experience with SLATE, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, and Transferology.

Experience working with the public.
