Patient Access Financial Counselor – Days, Resolute Health
Job Summary
Responsible for a wide range of duties in support of departmental efficiencies including registration, patient pre‑admission, admission, reception and discharge functions, arranging support hospital services requested by patients through referrals, performing thorough analysis of admission‑discharge transfers (ADT), revenue cycle reports, leading shift patient access operations, and collaborating with department leaders in process and operational excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Greeting patients following Conifer standards of care, providing world‑class customer service, completing full patient registration at date of service, adhering to financial and cash control policies, and thoroughly explaining and securing hospital and patient legal forms.
Provides full patient financial counseling, education & referrals, employs and completes all patient liability collection escalations through compliant techniques before, during & after date of service, performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry.
Secures medical necessity checks/verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, verifies insurance, benefits, coverage & eligibility, completes assigned registration financial clearance activities, obtains authorizations for scheduled & unscheduled services, and secures inpatient visit notification to payors.
Performs thorough analysis of ADT, revenue cycle reports, leads shift patient access operations, collaborates with department leaders in process and operational excellence.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm
Working knowledge of software/system/equipment/PCs
Knowledge of hospital environment preferred
Advanced customer service skill and experience
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
Effective oral & written communication
Advanced understanding of third‑party payor requirements (preferred)
Advanced understanding of compliance standards (preferred)
Advanced patient liability collection performance & high productivity
Ability to perform duties in at least three patient access service areas including ED
Proper negotiation techniques for collection of owed money.
Builds collaborative relationships with internal and external clients.
Education / Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
2‑4 years experience in medical facility, health insurance, or related area
2+ years in patient access preferred
Some college coursework preferred
Physical Demands
Sit at computer terminal for extended periods.
Occasionally lift / carry items up to 25 lb.
Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients with mobility problems.
Work Environment
Hospital administration setting
May work in patient care locations with exposure to life‑threatening conditions.
Other
Must be available to work hours and days as needed.
Resolves physician office and patient issues; may experience extreme patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
