Estimator – Underground Utilities
Austin, TX, Up to $160k base + benefits + sign-on bonus
A well-established, self-performing underground utilities contractor in Austin is looking to add an experienced Estimator to its preconstruction team. This role is suited to someone who already understands either public-sector or private wet utilities work and can independently lead estimates on complex projects across Central Texas.
This is a key hire for the business and offers strong compensation, long-term stability, and the opportunity to play a direct role in winning and shaping major municipal projects.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead the preparation of detailed, competitive estimates for site-prep, water, wastewater, and storm drainage projects
Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents to fully define scope, risk, and pricing strategy
Perform and oversee quantity takeoffs for underground utilities, including water, sanitary, and storm systems
Develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing based on self-perform capabilities
Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes
Identify risk, constructability issues, and value-engineering opportunities during the bid phase
Prepare complete bid packages and support final bid submissions
Maintain and utilize historical cost data to improve accuracy and consistency across bids
Collaborate with leadership during go / no-go decisions and bid reviews
What You'll Need
Proven experience in estimating public-sector underground utility projects
Strong understanding of self-performing heavy civil work and cost structures
Ability to independently run estimates from start to finish
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commercial awareness
Strong communication skills when working with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors
Proficiency in estimating Software such as HCSS Heavy Bid, PlanSwift or Win2Bid
Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or similar is preferred but not required
