Overview ActioNet has an immediate opportunity for a

Linux Administrator

requiring a

Public Trust. The position is 100% remote.

Preference will be given to candidates within a drivable distance to Newport, OR and Silver Springs, MD. Travel up to 20% per year is expected.

The Linux Administrator will manage Linux platforms and containers across hybrid environments supporting NOAA’s Marine Operations. This role is essential for operating scientific data services, implementing automation, and ensuring secure, high-performance Linux-based workflows.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain RHEL/Ubuntu with CIS/NOAA hardening

Operate Linux-based applications and pipelines (CORIOLIX, OpenRVDAS, Globus)

Containerize and orchestrate services using Docker/Podman and Kubernetes

Implement configuration management and IaC (Ansible, Cloud-Init/Kickstart)

Monitor Linux performance and triage system issues

Manage keys/secrets and integrate with AAD/Key Vault

Provide Tier 2 support for Linux-based scientific workflows

Participate in post-cruise reviews and update runbooks quarterly

Basic Qualifications (Required):

5 years administering Linux in production/hybrid environments

Strong skills in package management, systemd, SELinux/AppArmor, and TCP/IP

Proficient with Ansible and shell/Python scripting

Experience running CORIOLIX/OpenRVDAS/Globus and optimizing I/O at sea

Clear communication and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

RHCSA/RHCE or LFCS/LFCE

CKA/CKAD or Docker DCA
