With more than 12,000 team members—physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists and other highly skilled health care professionals—UofL Health is focused on one mission: delivering patient-centered care to each and every patient each and every day# **Job Description:**The Monitor Technician is responsible for effectively monitoring patients on Central Station Telemetry in Mixed Acuity and/or Critical Care Units. This employee reports cardiac and/or vital sign changes to the nursing staff and escalates concerns, as needed. The employee primarily monitors adult and geriatric and occasionally adolescent patients. Maintains accurate records and ensure coverage of monitors; may perform EKGs, as needed.

Ensures proper cleaning and storage of telemetry equipment.

**Essential Functions:**



Detects and identifies cardiac dysrhythmias and/or life-threatening arrhythmias and promptly communicates this information to the charge nurse and/or nurse assigned to patient



Reports malfunctioning equipment immediately



Maintains accurate records of telemetry strips



Maintains accurate records of communications with nursing staff, leadership, etc.



Ensures coverage of monitors at all times



Performs EKGs where applicable



Maintains cleaning protocol for telemetry units and is accountable for proper storage and inventory of telemetry equipment**Other Functions:**



Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct



Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times

Education:



High school diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)

Experience:



Previous hospital patient care experience (preferred)

Certification:



Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
