Overview The Virginia Department of Fire Programs enhances public safety in the Commonwealth by providing supplemental funding, training, fire prevention and life safety education, along with statewide fire code enforcement. This position will maintain and ensure all equipment in a safe and operational manner by completing equipment checks, weekly checks, and monthly checks on all equipment.
Responsibilities The Logistics Technician Senior is responsible for assisting with the Logistics Division of the agency by ensuring all agency vehicles, equipment and trailers are kept in a response‑ready state, maintaining accurate inventory levels of trailers and warehouses, ensuring all supporting documents and logs are completed and up to date, and ensuring all deliveries and pickups are covered. This position upholds the agency's mission to support and educate members of the Fire Service in the Commonwealth.
Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of and experience performing a variety of vehicle and equipment maintenance functions to support agency logistics operations.
Considerable experience operating a light truck that is used to pull a wide variety of equipment trailers via hitch and ball.
Considerable mechanical knowledge and experience operating all types of fire‑powered and non‑powered fire service tools and equipment required.
Considerable experience in mechanical operation of power tools and equipment.
Considerable experience in general maintenance, repair, and fabrication.
Considerable experience operating a computer and experience using Microsoft Office and Google platforms.
Ability to exercise independent judgement and work in an environment with limited supervision.
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritize competing tasks and deadlines, and manage multiple projects effectively; set objectives to achieve results; solve problems; and independently make decisions reflecting the mission of VDFP in a high‑stress environment and in a timely manner while exhibiting sound judgment.
Ability to lift greater than 50 pounds, work overhead.
Additional Considerations
Considerable experience in logistics systems and support, emergency management, response operations, and incident management desired.

Licensure / Certification CDL Class A preferred. Or must be able to obtain CDL Class A within one year of hiring.
