VITA Site Coordinator

Job Overview The IRC UT’s Financial Capability Programs support English Language Learners and low‑income individuals in developing their knowledge and skills in navigating the U.S. financial system. As part of this aim, IRC has facilitated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Project, providing free tax preparation services to community members. Under the supervision of the IRC UT’s Economic Empowerment Program Manager and Financial Capabilities Coordinator, the VITA Site Coordinator will coordinate and administer the VITA program in Salt Lake City, UT, with a goal of assisting 300 taxpayers this season.
Major Responsibilities
Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the VITA site during tax season (January – April 2026), including: Create a scheduling system for client appointments
Coordinate and provide technical support to volunteer tax preparers
Supervise virtual and in‑person volunteers
Provide customer service to taxpayers as needed
Conduct quality reviews and electronically file tax returns
Schedule customers for tax preparation
Facilitate the launch of the VITA program, including: Recruit and vet tax preparer volunteers
Solidify each site’s plan for tax intake and document collection
Train volunteers on the tax preparation process
Conduct outreach for the VITA program
Complete the IRS Link and Learn tax training at the Advanced level and the Site Coordinator Training
Assist with data collection and reporting
Ensure compliance with IRS and VITA program policies, as well as IRC policies
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; or equivalent work experience and education preferred
Previous experience as a VITA volunteer strongly preferred
Previous experience with personal income tax preparation strongly preferred
Experience in a non‑profit organization preferred
Excellent customer service skills, including experience working with a diverse client base
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to make presentations and supervise a large, diverse volunteer group
Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail
High level of computer literacy; familiarity with TaxSlayer software highly preferred
Comfort, functioning, and effectiveness in multi‑cultural and multi‑disciplinary teams
Strong commitment to economic empowerment of low‑income and underserved populations
Excellent written and verbal English
Working Environment
Standard, professional office environment
Some evening and weekend work hours required
Home internet and personal computer/laptop needed
Compensation Pay Range: $22.50 (US‑based candidates only; exact offer calibrated by location, experience, and skills).
