Department Overview PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately‑owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains, include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner.

Position Summary This is a Local 1245 IBEW‑represented classification, subject to collective bargaining. The role performs general electrical maintenance, troubleshooting process systems, and repairing and configuring instrumentation such as transmitters, controllers, and VFDs. The technician reads and interprets mechanical flow diagrams, P&ID’s, electrical single‑line and wiring diagrams, and hydraulic systems. They assist in ordering parts, inventory control, and data input into the work management system. The position primarily works weekday day shift with possible weekends, overtime, or rotating 12‑hour shifts.

Cognitive Requirements Reasoning: Requires the ability to use judgment and reasoning in carrying out job duties. Decision: Requires the ability to make decisions and take direction to/from others.

Physical Requirements Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly. Other physical demands include balancing, carrying, and climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.

Compensation PG&E is providing a starting hourly rate of $66.62, specific to the locality, based on skills, experience, and collective bargaining agreements.

Responsibilities Electrical – Journey level technician with 5 years of experience. Duties include safely performing electrical work using precision meters and instrumentation; testing, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical equipment at various voltage levels. Tasks include high and low voltage circuit testing, troubleshooting and repair, motor and component installation, relay testing and calibration, station battery and circuit maintenance, generator testing, and maintenance; maintaining accurate drawings and documentation; planning and predictive maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

Valid California Driver's License by day 1 of hire.

Ability to work in all types of weather extremes.

Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.

Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

Must wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Minimum 5 years of Power Plant Electrical Maintenance or equivalent experience.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and troubleshoot systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of SAP.

Experience as a qualified Electrical Worker for up to 13.8 kV equipment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Team player capability.

Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Experience with GE Mark VI Programming/troubleshooting.

Experience with Emerson Ovation Programming/troubleshooting.

Experience with PLC Programming/troubleshooting.
