About Schneider Buchel LLP Protecting & Enriching Communities – We’re a fast‑growing law firm focused on real‑estate law, landlord‑tenant law, employment and labor law, and discrimination law. We represent community associations throughout New York State while offering an incredible workplace environment. Our newly designed, state‑of‑the‑art office in Woodbury, Long Island provides a quiet room for uninterrupted work, an outdoor rooftop lounge, an in‑house gym (free for employees), a full‑service café, and a spacious break room.

About the Role We are seeking a driven, detail‑oriented litigation associate attorney with 3‑5+ years of experience to join our expanding legal team. The position focuses on representing community associations, cooperatives, condominiums, and commercial property owners within a busy landlord‑tenant practice. It involves client interaction, case management from intake through resolution, and regular court appearances. This Long Island, NY, in‑office role offers hands‑on legal work, courtroom exposure, and long‑term professional growth in a collaborative, well‑supported environment.

Why This Role Stands Out

Represent cooperative boards that benefit from the Business Judgment Rule under New York law, providing a significant legal advantage compared to standard landlord‑tenant representations.

Work on matters where legal fees are recoverable, leading to stronger case outcomes and better client results.

Experience higher rates of successful outcomes, including possession, compliance, and enforcement, resulting in more frequent positive client interactions.

Handle cases focused on conduct, governance, and quality‑of‑life issues rather than purely financial evictions.

Represent volunteer board members acting on fiduciary duties, not profit‑driven landlords, making the work more ethical and community‑centered.

Develop sophisticated legal skills at the intersection of landlord‑tenant law, corporate governance, fiduciary duty, and contract interpretation.

Build long‑term relationships with experienced boards and managing agents who value strategic legal advice and become repeat clients.

Compensation $150,000 per year (DOE)

Responsibilities

Handle a broad range of landlord‑tenant matters on behalf of community associations, cooperatives, condominiums, and multifamily property owners.

Appear regularly in Housing Court and related forums, including conferences, motion practice, and hearings, with responsibility commensurate with experience.

Manage cases from intake through resolution, including pleadings, stipulations, settlements, and enforcement proceedings.

Advise boards, property managers, and owners on landlord‑tenant strategy, compliance issues, and risk management.

Communicate directly with clients, property managers, and board members in a responsive and professional manner.

Attend court appearances, client meetings, and board or community meetings as needed.

Qualifications

Admitted to practice law in New York State.

Approximately 3‑5+ years of relevant landlord‑tenant and/or housing court experience.

Experience representing landlords, property owners, cooperatives, condominiums, or community associations is preferred, but not required.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including direct client interaction and courtroom advocacy.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and case‑management abilities.

Client‑focused, with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
