Overview
The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) regulates the state's electric, telecommunications, and water and sewer utilities. The Legal Division advocates for Commission staff in contested cases and provides legal, policy, and regulatory guidance to attorneys and commissioners. Position
Attorney (entry to mid-level) Responsibilities
Represent the Commission before the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) and other agencies. Conduct legal research and analysis. Draft pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents. Coordinate expert witness preparation. Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited law school (LLB or JD). Licensed to practice in Texas and eligible to maintain a Texas bar license. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a licensed attorney (Attorney II) or 3 years of experience in utility regulation or administrative law (Attorney III). Preferred Qualifications
Internship experience in electric, telecommunications, or water and sewer utilities or with a regulatory state agency. Administrative law or litigation experience. Salary
Commits to salary by rank:
Attorney I
$77,175–$89,250;
Attorney II
$88,200–$99,750;
Attorney III
$99,225–$106,728. All newly hired attorneys receive a 6% legislatively authorized salary increase upon hire. Benefits
