R137811**About the Opportunity**## **JOB SUMMARY** The Mills Educational Talent Search (METS) TRIO Program identifies and assists youth in Oakland from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides free academic, career, financial aid counseling, and college application assistance to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to complete their postsecondary education.## The Program Assistant - METS assists in providing comprehensive academic advising and cultural awareness to program participants. In collaboration with METS team, the Program Assistant plans and supervises all METS related activities, events, field trips and college tours as well as coordinates and implements the METS Summer Enrichment Program. Additional duties include supporting the Summer Program Instructors by implementing classroom management policies and procedures necessary to maintain a productive, effective classroom environment; providing individual and group advising sessions for student participants throughout the summer program; and participating METS staff meetings.## **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** •

Mission-driven and passionate about programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. •

Ability to coordinate and facilitate academic support programs including advising, workshops, fieldtrips, assessment, follow-up and resource referral. •

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. •

Ability to take direction, prioritize, and work independently. •

Demonstrated experience-solving problems including conflict resolution. •

Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure or on deadline, maintaining a professional composure when dealing with common problems that occur in events and classroom settings. •

Experience and ability to effectively work with students with all academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds similar to METS Program participants.## **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES**## 1

Serve as a METS Representative at the assigned target school(s). Program Assistants work with the Academic Advisors to provide assistance in college advising services to assigned cohorts at target schools. Responsible for dissemination of college resources & information throughout the school sites. 60%## ## 2

Responsible for co-facilitating college workshops through monthly seminars & in-class workshops. Topics addressed through the workshops include career exploration, college preparation, college admissions information, financial aid, cultural awareness, hands-on activities. 10%## ## 3

Recruitment & publicity of program services. Distribute and collect METS student applications, share METS informational flyers and program event calendars with current and prospective participants and families. 10%## ## 4

Maintenance of METS space in College Centers at school sites. Increase college awareness and post current informational flyers for upcoming community events and deadlines for college applications, financial aid applications, and scholarships. 10%## ## 5
