Job Responsibilities
Performs inspections per engineering directives for all state roads in Newberry County and prepares encroachment permits for approval. Assists with inspecting work performed on maintenance contracts and in‑house maintenance work to enforce safe work zones and ensure contract specifications and departmental standards are followed. Uses Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS) or equivalent for time entry, daily work reports, work requests, deficiency coordination between entry and completion, and various reporting to supervisors. Assists with gathering quantities for all types of upcoming contracts and routine maintenance work and entering data into HMMS. Maintains road and right‑of‑way filing system, responding/completing internal and external requests for information. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12‑hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Physical Demands The physical demands for the essential functions involve frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
