Unit Summary Michigan Housing is an actively engaged unit within Student Life Auxiliary Services. M Housing serves approximately 11,500 students, primarily undergraduate, and provides 19 residential facilities across Ann Arbor and Detroit, along with dining and retail operations.

Position Summary The Michigan Housing Community Connections and Engagement Department fosters vibrant, inclusive residential communities. The M Housing Accommodations Coordinator manages the housing accommodations process for M Housing, supporting students and families with housing options and accommodation needs.

Responsibilities Management of Residential Experience – 50% Duties

Partner with Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) to facilitate housing accommodations for students with disabilities and/or medical/chronic health conditions.

Serve as the primary point of contact for students, parents, and support networks, guiding them through all facets of the M Housing accommodation process.

Collaborate with University units (e.g., University Health & Counseling, SSD, University ADA Coordinator) to meet student health and disability housing needs.

Oversee the use of StarRez and internal M Housing databases to strategically manage, monitor, and track all housing assignments for students with accessibility, disability, or health-related accommodation needs.

Assess, propose, and lead the implementation of facility modifications to ensure compliance with ADA, state, and federal regulations.

Lead the accommodations process for religious observance requests.

Manage and triage the M Housing Accommodations inbox, providing prompt, thorough, and empathetic responses to accommodation inquiries and requests.

Lead the process for review of contract termination fee waiver requests related to health, disability, or religious observance needs.

Assess current student trends, identify current and future needs for accommodations, develop processes for students to utilize M Housing systems to request accommodations, and create protocols for assignment.

Complete an annual report for compliance with federal and state law.

Keep track of existing on-campus housing inventory for accommodation needs.

Residential Climate Support and Education – 25%

Assist the team in daily triaging and tracking of residential climate concerns reports in the residential communities.

Support conflict management process and responses to identity and climate concerns reported by ResStaff and M Housing permanent staff.

Provide support to students, ResStaff, and Residential permanent staff in navigating residential climate concerns.

Provide educational outreach, training and support across the University community.

Create training programs for M Housing staff on best practices to serve students with accommodation needs.

Develop student centered processes for navigating the application and assignment process in collaboration with M Housing colleagues.

Implement initiatives related to the M Housing You Belong Here campaign.

Departmental Administration – 25%

Participate in an on-call rotation to address campus climate incidents within residence halls.

Provide an annual report on data elements including the number of requests for accommodation, number of accommodations granted, number of service and support animals, demographics and location requests granted, and other data points as directed.

Generate reports and presentations to inform decision-making in support of student trends, support efforts, service evaluation and provide advocacy for current and future needs.

Provide onsite coverage for the office to support residents, serving on the department's Core Coverage Team.

Serve on University and Student Life committees.

Attend the Council for Disability Concerns meetings as representative for M Housing.

Perform other duties as assigned by M Housing Unit and Department Leadership.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Experience in student affairs and/or related field

Experience in building inclusive communities, program leadership, or a customer service driven environment.

Experience in mediation, conflict management, or restorative practices in resolving conflict.

Modes of Work Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.

Additional Information Working Conditions

The job requires working evening and weekend hours and traveling to multiple M Housing locations on campus. The position is an onsite position and shares office coverage responsibilities.

Possibility for one day remote work a week following successful completion of probationary period.

Physical Requirements

Individuals may be required to be stationary for long periods of time.

Extensive computer and phone use required.

Be able to move and transport packages and boxes up to 25 lbs.

Direct Reports

May have direct supervision of hourly student staff to support the residential experience.

Provides functional supervision of all department student staff on addressing residential climate concerns and supporting residents.

Additional Information: This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
