Student Services Administrator (Engagement) Department: Sociology | Salary: £28,778 - £32,080 per year | Grade: Grade 4 | Contract status: Open | Hours of work: Full‑time | Based at: University of York campus (with some remote working options available)

The Faculty of Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a Student Services Administrator (Engagement) available from January 2026. The position joins the Engagement Professional Services Team supporting York Law School and the Department of Sociology. The role involves supporting a large number of students, including international students, and managing the student lifecycle from induction to graduation. The role‑holder will administer a full range of administrative tasks, share best practice, improve efficiency and communication, and provide high levels of customer service with a friendly, approachable, ‘can‑do’ attitude.

Responsibilities:

Ensuring student records are up to date and accurate.

Process forms relating to leave of absence, transfers and appeals.

Respond in a timely manner to student queries in person, via email, phone and the student reception.

Support student engagement and visa monitoring.

Contribute to the delivery of student events and forums.

Create student‑focused communications across newsletters, social media and other channels.

Maintain flexibility to support other Student Services teams.

Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed:

Level 2 qualification including Maths and English (e.g., five GCSEs at grade A*–C or grade 4‑9). Equivalent non‑UK qualifications or professional experience are welcomed.

Experience of working in a varied administrative role effectively balancing competing priorities.

Use of digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office.

Experience of providing an excellent standard of customer service to a range of stakeholders.

Accurately record, analyse, interpret and report information/data.

Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.

Organise activities and resources.
