Operations Specialist
Summary: The Operations Specialist primary role is to interface with clients and serve them in a variety of different ways. The overall responsibilities of this role will vary depending on the assignment, but the overarching theme will be to work together as a team with other CruzAlta personnel, while providing a service that creates value for the client, leveraging years of operations experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide clients with experienced, competent personnel who can advise them in areas including but not limited to recognizing risk and hazards associated with different plant tasks, lock‑out/tag‑out, permit to work including confined space, operations turnaround fundamentals, coaching/training plant operators on turnaround elements, advising on commissioning and startup activities, building key relationships across all levels of client employees, assisting RTI’s Operations Managers with specific decon tasks, participating in clearing and cleaning activities, training client personnel on RTI’s cleaning and clearing strategies, following up with clients to ensure expectations are met or exceeded, and conducting business safely consistent with RTI’s/CruzAlta’s Core Behaviors.
Qualifications
Interest in helping others (servant’s heart), strong teamwork, and ability to develop new relationships.
Understands complex process units and piping circuits.
Ability to perform all work safely in all plant settings.
Strong communication skills (listening, speaking, information processing, reading, writing).
Ability to thrive and influence in a cross‑functional environment.
Sense of urgency and focus for managing multiple tasks under time constraints.
Attention to detail with project management interests.
High degree of drive, self‑initiative, and process‑oriented thinking.
Willingness to adapt flexibly to change, complexity, problems, conflict, or ambiguity.
Preferred Experience
Ten or more years of refinery, upgrader, gas plants or chemical plant operations experience.
Mechanical expertise and aptitude.
Required Certificates & Licenses
Valid driver’s license.
TWIC card.
Passport.
Basic Plus.
Working Conditions
Requires passing a pre‑employment physical to demonstrate the ability to safely meet the physical demands of the position.
Duration of Work Hours During Project Executions
Typically 12 continuous hours that may extend up to 16–18 hours for emergent needs, for up to 14 days in a row.
Day shift and/or night shift.
Physical Demands
Work at heights up to 150 ft (45 m) accessed via stairs, climbing ladders, or critical lifts by cranes.
Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs without assistance.
Pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs without assistance.
Standing and walking for up to 12–16 hours daily with minimal rest breaks; may exceed 10,000 to 15,000 steps per day.
Bending and stooping repeatedly, twisting or turning valves, and using wrenches and hand tools.
Safety Equipment / Apparel
CruzAlta will provide appropriate PP&E: fireproof clothing, hard hat, safety shoes, gloves, etc. Some facilities may require respirators.
Required Travel
Ability to travel to outlying markets to support a growing list of clients across North America and potentially international markets.
