About the Job The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of
Principal and Leadership Gifts Associate
in the
Development Department
of the ACLU’s National office in
New York, NY . This is a
hybrid role
that requires in-office presence two days per week or eight days per month.
The mission of the ACLU’s Development Department is to unlock the full potential of donors and the ACLU as partners in the creation of a more perfect union.
What You’ll Do Reporting to the
Associate Director, Executive Portfolio , the
Principal and Leadership Gifts Associate
provides fundraising, research, and administrative support to the Principal and Leadership Gifts teams.
Your Day to Day
Maintain and enter donor-related communications and data in the CRM.
Ensure accurate record-keeping, data hygiene, financial and pledge reporting, and timely gift processing.
Assist in the preparation of donor strategy briefing papers, funding proposals, reports, and talking points.
Edit and send gift acknowledgement letters and other donor stewardship documents.
Support and contribute to the unit’s business processes, including managing donor database records, moves management, performance reporting, coordinating solicitation resources, scheduling meetings, and administering budget and expense reports.
Facilitate research on donors and prospects.
Draft, edit, and proofread donor communications and maintain working knowledge of ACLU issue areas.
Provide production support for donor meetings, small group events, and donor communications.
Manage staff travel, including coordination and prioritization of national and affiliate visits.
Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal skills to represent the organization to donors and to interact with staff and volunteers with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with superior attention to detail and strong follow-through.
Strong verbal communication, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
Sound judgment to share information internally and externally, and serve as a resource for others.
Proactive contribution to assigned and unassigned tasks and projects; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of, or desire to learn about, the major gift fundraising field.
Familiarity with office software and fundraising databases.
Experience working at complex, fast‑paced national or international nonprofits.
Compensation The ACLU offers a set salary based on geographic location. The annual salary for this position is
$85,596 (Level J) , reflecting a New York, NY location. Salaries may be adjusted for regional differences.
