We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as a road Inspector. As an Inspector you will be the first point of contact with our customers as they bring scrap materials into the yard. Your primary responsibilities will be outside in all weather inspecting and documenting customer loads and directing traffic to the proper collection site within the yard.

Position Summary Work outside in varying weather conditions, SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. The Inspector is responsible for observing and monitoring the delivery of material to verify conformance to quality and quantity specifications, while ensuring all efforts are compliant with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. Duties may include assisting with daily production operations, receiving and stockpiling of materials and products.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect incoming customer loads for acceptable and non-acceptable materials.

Maintain a broad and working knowledge of different types of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Identify and grade inbound scrap and reject unacceptable items.

Direct customer traffic to the appropriate collection sites.

Identify non-conforming items and properly deduct weight from customer loads.

Communicate clearly and handle stressful situations.

Ensure customers follow proper procedures for selling recyclable materials.

Guide semi-trucks in and out of the yard and maintain efficient traffic pattern.

Communicate clearly with the weighmaster and machine operator for each load.

Sort materials for processing as directed and move items to designated storage areas daily.

Assist with unloading materials for customers one at a time.

Clean and maintain work area daily.

Comply with all applicable safety, health, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.

Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.

1-year previous general labor experience in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred.

Ability to use a computer tablet.

Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.

Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.

Ability to learn new tasks as assigned or required.

Must pass a background check.

Must pass pre‑employment physical and drug screen.

Physical Requirements

Stand and walk frequently on uneven ground.

Lift and carry, perform repetitive motions, and provide physical labor.

Push and pull occasionally when moving materials.

Crouch or bend at the knees to move or access materials or equipment.

Stoop or bend at the waist to move materials.

Reach at arm’s length and overhead frequently.

Twist and turn the neck and trunk continually.

Climb occasionally when obtaining items.

Require manual dexterity to handle materials constantly.

Communicate clearly by speech and hearing continuously.

Visual acuity required for close detail work and documentation.

Mental dexterity for independent work and continuous awareness of the environment.

Additional Information An offer of employment by SA Recycling is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a post‑offer drug screen, physical exam, and background check (and a credit check if position specified). All US applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
