Job Overview The Quality Assurance Technician (QA Tech) is primarily responsible for inspecting our flooring installations in apartments and in university/college‑owned student housing. He/she is trained to make minor flooring installation repairs, as needed, and serves as the first line of defense to identify any potential flooring issues on our job sites. This is a field‑based position and he/she will occasionally pick up and deliver material to job sites or to subcontracted installers, as needed. The person will have daily use of a company vehicle to drive to our customer locations. Therefore, he/she must have a valid driver license and clean driving record in order to drive throughout the assigned territory.
Responsibilities
Drive a company vehicle daily to multifamily jobsites to inspect flooring installations done by our subcontracted flooring installers.
Report unacceptable results and follow up on incidents to confirm resolution in a timely manner.
Identify installation defects through the flooring inspection and, if able, remedy minor issues using Company’s tools.
Log all quality inspections and in‑person customer calls.
Meet with subcontracted flooring installers in the field and at the assigned branch location to discuss installation issues.
Authorized to approve floor prep on‑site.
Meet with vendor and manufacturer reps to address product recommendations, concerns, questions, and problems. Stay abreast of new product and installation methods. Participate in on‑site vendor training sessions.
Meet with company customers, including property managers and maintenance personnel.
Measure rooms for new flooring and create a materials list.
Pick up and deliver material to jobsites/subcontractors, if needed.
Assist in the warehouse operations.
Perform all other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required to perform the essential job duties.
Being fluent in both English & Spanish is preferred, although not required.
Ability to perform floor covering repairs if the need arises. This ability can be taught through on‑the‑job training within 3 months of hire, and is required to perform the duties of the job on an on‑going basis.
Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50‑75 lbs when delivering materials as needed.
Prior knowledge and experience in carpet and vinyl flooring materials and related supplies are a plus, although not mandatory.
Forklift experience is not required but is a plus.
Physical Demands & Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to possess some dexterity in operating office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to sit for long periods of time; stand; walk; sit; bend; stoop; reach with hands and arms; and frequently walk around the office. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50‑75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee must have the ability to travel extensively on a frequent basis by driving a personal vehicle, by commercial air travel, or by ride‑share. The duties of this position will often require the employee to work in non‑temperature controlled warehouse environments which may be dirty, dusty or otherwise uncomfortable.
